About Us

About UsThe Brighton Optimist ClubChartered in September 1977, the Club contributes to many local causes and has spear-headed some large projects. We are an IRS-recognized 501 c 3 organization. As with all Optimist Clubs, we are "Bringing Out The Best In Kids" through our positive service programs. Club members are best known in their communities for their upbeat and "can do" attitudes. By believing in young people and empowering them to be the best they can, Optimist volunteers continually make this world a better place in which to live. Brighton HS Junior Optimist (JOOI) ClubThe Brighton HS JOOI Club hit the ground running! Two members immediately became active with the Michigan District JOOI Group by becoming Lt. Governors, and one of our members is the current District Secretary. The JOOI club has sponsored and participated in many activities and been involved with community mentoring and tutoring through the District, and conducts the 'JOOI of Reading' program at Hornung Elementary School. Their Relay for Life team raised over $2,000 for cancer research and earned a plaque for 'Most Team Spirit'. It's created a powerful synergy with our adult club and it's Charter President was awarded the 2011-2012 JOOI Member of Excellence, which came with a $2,000 scholarship. This award is granted to only one JOOI member in all of Optimist International. Junior Optimist Clubs can be formed at all grade levels (Alpha, Junior and JOOI) in any school. Ask us how!
