Brighton Optimist Club

Welcome

Optimist Club members are area residents that have joined together to aid and encourage the development of youth in the belief that the giving of one's self in service to others will advance the well-being of community life, humankind, and the world.

We sponsor youth activities like an annual Fishing Derby, Youth Appreciation and Oratorical Contest, Respect for Law, and others. Some of our community service activities include Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army each Holiday season, collecting and donating food to the Gleaners Food Bank, and contributing annually to the Youth Connection House in Howell.

We meet Thursday mornings, 7:30am at the Lil' Chef Restaurant, on Grand River Ave. at Challis Rd., in Brighton (near exit 145 off I-96). Please join us! We'll buy breakfast for first-time guests and visitors. Please click here to see our current speaker schedule.

Club Information

In September 2003, we celebrated 25 years as an Optimist Club! Our membership is between 45 and 50 members, and if you check out the Activities and Past Projects pages, you'll see that we keep ourselves pretty busy! But don't let that intimidate you. We have plenty of members whose busy lives and schedules keep them away from most of our morning meetings, but they show up for our larger events to lend a hand.

And we can always use help at events like the kids fishing derby at the Brighton Mill Pond, the bike decorating contest before the 4th of July parade, the Optimist International signature events like the Oratorical and Essay Contest, Youth Appreciation, and all of our other activities. We'd love to have you drop by and check us out.

In early 2004, the club reached another landmark with the fulfillment of a pledge to fund $10,000 in scholarships to Livingston County's Renaissance Alternative High School (formally known as Phoenix HS). It's the first time that these students have had scholarship money dedicated just to them.

We're happy to accept donations and sponsorships to assist us with providing programs for area youth. If you would like to make a donation via a secure site please visit our Event Sponsors page.

News Flash

Our base of operations is temporarily dysfunctional. The Lil’ Chef location that we all know and love has been torn down and another business is being build in it's place. Lil’ Chef is being relocated and we plan to rejoin them when they reopen but in the mean time we are meeting at Cheryl’s Place located at 4683 S. Old US 23, Brighton. It is about a mile north of Grand River on the east side of the street. Please feel free to join us at this location just as you normally would. Club members please be sure your speakers and regular guests have been advised of the change.
